Azerbaijan has doubled its position in the Global Innovation Index

The Global Innovation Index-2021 (GII-2021), a joint publication of Cornell University (USA), INSEAD Business School (France) and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), has been published this year and covers 132 countries. Azerbaijan improved its rating by 2 points compared to last year (82nd place) and rose to 80th place.

The statement came from Gunay Guliyeva, chief analyst at the Center for Economic Reforms Analysis and Communication (CERAC), Doctor of Philosophy in Economics, AZERTAC reported.

He said the report, first published in 2007, was written by Professor Sumitra Dutta. The Global Innovation Index (GEI) is an annual ranking of countries for their innovation capability and success. The FDI report is used by corporations and government officials to compare countries by level of innovation. The QII-2021 rating is based on 81 indicators covering the potential, productivity and framework conditions of innovation activity. The main purpose of publishing the FDI is to create opportunities to assess the mechanisms for stimulating innovation.

The best result of our country on this sub-index was obtained from the “Internal Market Development” block (36th place). Azerbaijan ranks 33rd in this bloc in the “Credit” category, ranks 1st among all countries in the “Ease of borrowing” index, and 13th in the “Microfinance Loans” index. “Azerbaijan ranks 33rd in the” Business Environment “category of the” Institutions “bloc, and 9th in the” Ease of Starting a Business “indicator,” he said.

According to Guliyeva, Azerbaijan is ahead of Georgia (74), Belarus (93), Tajikistan (107), Kazakhstan (110), Uzbekistan (113) and Kyrgyzstan (120) in the “Results of Innovation” sub-index in the “Results of Creative Activity” bloc. , our country ranks 67th in the ranking. According to him, in this sub-index, an important integral indicator of “Intangible Assets”, which is mainly determined by the objects of intellectual property, attracts attention. According to this indicator, Azerbaijan improved its result in 2020 (56th place) by 2 points and ranked 54th. Mental activity indicators are quite high in this integrated indicator. For example, Azerbaijan has risen from 18th to 11th place in the ranking of industrial designs and brands.
