Baku: Azerbaijan has announced a ban on fishing in several inland water bodies starting today. The moratorium, aimed at protecting fish and other aquatic bioresources during their spawning period, will be enforced in key areas including the Kura River, Sarisu Lake, and the Mingachevir, Shamkir, Araz, and Yenikend reservoirs.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan has confirmed that this ban will specifically target industrial fishing activities. Arzu Babayeva, an official from the Biodiversity Protection Service, mentioned that the restrictions will remain in place until September 1, 2025. This initiative underscores Azerbaijan’s commitment to safeguarding its aquatic ecosystems during critical periods of reproduction.
