Baku: Azerbaijan has initiated a project to incorporate advanced management technologies into its energy system.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the initiative aims to integrate renewable energy sources into the national grid, aligning management practices with global standards, and enhancing the system’s resilience. “Az?rEnerji” JSC, in collaboration with the U.S. company SEL (Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories), has embarked on this project.

The project will see the implementation of Wide Area Monitoring System (WAMS) and Wide Area Control System (WACS) technologies across Azerbaijan. In its initial phase, 27 Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs) will be installed at key power plants and substation nodes. These devices will measure voltage, current, and frequency in real-time, transmitting the data to a central server. This setup will enable online monitoring of Azerbaijan’s energy system, including its connections with Russia, Georgia, and Iran. The technology aims to identify accident risks promptly, helping to prevent their escalation.
