Baku: The retirement age for service in the prosecutor’s office in Azerbaijan is being increased, APA reports. At a recent session of the Milli Majlis, amendments to the draft law ‘On Service in Prosecutor’s Offices’ were discussed, resulting in the decision to raise the age limit for serving in the prosecutor’s office from 60 to 65.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the current law allows for the extension of service in the prosecution up to the age of 65, with each extension lasting no more than one year. Under the new amendment, prosecutors who have served at least 35 years until reaching the retirement age, except those deprived of special ranks, will continue to have the right to an age-based pension.
The amendment also includes reaching the maximum age limit for service as a ground for terminating the service of a prosecutor. The main aim of this change is to enable experienced prosecutors with long service records to continue their work, thus enhancing the efficiency of prosecution bodies.
The law is set to apply not only to current prosecutors but also to those who will be appointed after its enactment. The draft law was adopted in the third reading following discussions.
