Baku: A new climate-related law is being drafted in Azerbaijan, announced Fuad Humbatov, a representative of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan. This announcement was made during a panel session titled 'National Joint Actions and International Cooperation,' part of an international event dedicated to World Environment Day.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the draft law aims to address issues related to Article 6 of the Paris Agreement and other areas within the agreement. Azerbaijan plans to collaborate with Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan to develop standards for emission factors. Both Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan currently use standard emission factors for inventories. During a recent meeting, officials from these countries discussed implementing joint projects to improve emission factors, involving academic institutions and other stakeholders.
Humbatov emphasized the importance of accurately determining the gas-oil ratio in Azerbaijan's oil and gas industry, where gas is released during oil production. The new Climate Law will serve as a comprehensive framework covering various sectors, necessitating close collaboration with international partners, academic circles, and universities within the country.
