Baku: Azerbaijan has introduced a draft for a new state program aimed at enhancing the development of official statistics, as revealed by Tahir Budagov, Chairman of the State Statistical Committee, during the 3rd International Statistics Forum held in Baku. The increasing necessity for reliable statistics to support decision-making and evaluate current situations has become apparent due to recent global changes in political, social, and economic spheres.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Budagov emphasized the importance of adapting to the rapid advancements in information technology and the emergence of alternative data sources, which necessitate the modernization of statistical processes and the formation of a proficient workforce. The Azerbaijan national statistical system aims to address both national and global challenges, having made significant progress through reforms aligning with contemporary requirements.
The foundation of Azerbaijan’s national statistics system is linked to the work of Heydar Aliyev, the national leader. Under his leadership, the legal framework for a market economy-based statistical system was established, which propelled the development of official statistics. Six state programs initiated by the head of state have been successfully executed, focusing on various areas including national classifications, modern methodologies, and the national accounts system.
Budagov pointed out that the reforms within Azerbaijan’s national statistics system have received positive global recognition, confirming their compliance with international standards. The State Statistical Committee was awarded an international conformity certificate for the ISO 9001:2015 quality management system, making it the first statistical agency in the CIS region to achieve such recognition.
A draft for the new state program for 2026-2030 has been prepared, outlining goals that include leveraging international experience, improving the international methodological base, and exchanging innovations in statistics through modern technology. The State Statistical Committee actively collaborates with international organizations and foreign statistical bodies, particularly highlighting cooperation with the Statistics Committee of the Republic of Korea, with whom several projects have been successfully implemented.
