Baku: Azerbaijan’s State Customs Committee is placing increased attention on travelers arriving from countries deemed at risk for monkeypox. The committee outlined these measures in response to an inquiry by APA.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the State Customs Committee is taking significant steps to curb the potential spread of the monkeypox virus at airports and border checkpoints across the nation. These actions are informed by data from the World Health Organization, which aids in identifying high-risk countries and focusing efforts on passengers from those regions.
The committee’s Medical Service Department is actively conducting training sessions for customs officers on managing dangerous infections, with recent emphasis on monkeypox. This training covers the virus’s clinical symptoms, transmission methods, and prevention strategies. Enhanced technical measures are also in place to identify travelers with elevated body temperatures, and the protocol for initial medical evaluations and epidemiological surveys has been strengthened.
In the event of identifying suspected monkeypox cases, further procedures will be carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, the Administration of the Regional Medical Divisions (TABIB), and relevant bodies, in line with established anti-epidemic guidelines for handling dangerous infections at Azerbaijan’s customs and border checkpoints.
