Azerbaijan Introduces Law Mandating Child Support Above Subsistence Minimum

Baku: A child has the right to receive financial support in an amount not less than the subsistence minimum established by law. This provision is part of the new draft Law 'On the Rights of the Child' discussed at a recent meeting of the Milli Majlis Committee on Family, Women and Children's Affairs.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the draft law ensures that every child in Azerbaijan has the right to social security. The legislation stipulates that financial support for children should not fall below the legally established subsistence minimum. The state is committed to providing social assistance to specific categories of individuals to ensure the social protection of children.

The draft law also outlines that children in difficult life circumstances and their families will receive guaranteed free social services. These services will be offered in accordance with the law 'On Social Services' at state social service institutions and in homes. Local self-government bodies are tasked with implementing local social protection programs, aiming to provide additional guarantees beyond state social security.

Furthermore, non-governmental organizations play a role in the social protection of children by executing measures within the framework of state orders or independently, using their financial resources.
