Baku: A new regulation concerning deductions from employee salaries related to alimony has been established in Azerbaijan. This development comes as a result of recent amendments to the Labor Code, which were formalized with a decree signed by President Ilham Aliyev.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the Labor Code stipulates that the total amount of all deductions withheld each time a salary is paid cannot exceed twenty percent of the employee's salary, with certain exceptions allowing up to fifty percent as specified by relevant legislation. In instances where multiple enforcement documents necessitate salary deductions, fifty percent of the employee's salary must be retained.

The limits set do not apply to deductions from an employee's salary in specific cases, such as serving corrective labor or withholding alimony, as well as compensation for harm caused to health, damage caused to persons harmed due to the loss of the family breadwinner, and harm resulting from a crime. In such scenarios, the amount of deductions can reach up to 70 percent of the employee's salary. The amendment specifies that deductions in these particular cases cannot exceed 70 percent.
