Azerbaijan Joins Global Mediation Agreement

Baku: Azerbaijan has officially joined the United Nations Convention on International Settlement Agreements Resulting from Mediation.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, this development follows an order signed by President Ilham Aliyev on February 23, 2026, granting Tofig Musayev, Azerbaijan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, the authority to sign the convention on behalf of the nation.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs was tasked with sending a notification to the United Nations Secretary-General following the presidential order. This order became effective immediately upon its signing. On April 23, in line with the directive, Tofig Musayev proceeded to the UN Office of Legal Affairs to formalize the signing.

The Azerbaijan Permanent Mission to the UN confirmed Musayev's visit to the UN Office of Legal Affairs to sign the Convention on International Settlement Agreements Resulting from Mediation, a treaty adopted in New York on December 20, 2018. This action marks Azerbaijan's official commitment to the convention.
