Baku: Azerbaijan's foreign policy towards Central Asia has entered a new phase, with relations between Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan gaining significant momentum. The recent state visit of President Ilham Aliyev to the Kyrgyz Republic is considered a key political event marking the transition of relations between the two countries from a strategic partnership to an alliance. This development holds importance not only for bilateral ties but also for broader political, economic, and humanitarian integration within the Turkic world.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Azer Allahveranov, a deputy of the Azerbaijani Milli Majlis and member of the working group on Azerbaijan-Kyrgyz interparliamentary relations, emphasized the geopolitical significance of the visit. He noted that joint efforts have been made to elevate relations between the two nations to the highest level, demonstrating substantial political will to advance these relations.
Allahveranov highlighted that the transition from strategic partnership to alliance is now evident, with concrete activities underway to deepen cooperation in various sectors such as economic, trade, transport, energy, agriculture, culture, and humanitarian fields. The deep historical connection between the Azerbaijani and Kyrgyz peoples, underpinned by a shared Turkic identity and culture, forms a solid foundation for these advancing relations.
Efforts to strengthen cooperation have brought the two countries closer, with the partnership being systematically enhanced through institutional mechanisms. Key agreements, such as the third meeting of the Interstate Council of Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan, and the development of a roadmap for expanding economic cooperation, have further solidified the institutional framework supporting these relations.
The deputy also pointed out the importance of aligning political dialogue with strategic partnership and creating favorable conditions for utilizing the economic potential of both countries. The implementation of energy projects and the development of transport and logistics infrastructure are current priorities. The transport of international cargo from China to Europe via the Central Corridor, passing through Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Azerbaijan, underscores the strategic importance of this cooperation, with Kazakhstan's involvement highlighting the partnership's level of development.
