Zurich: The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has urged FIFA President Gianni Infantino to voluntarily step down from his position, as reported by The Telegraph.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, UEFA has issued a warning that if Infantino does not comply with their request, they will proceed with initiating a vote of no confidence against him. This significant stance is collectively supported by all 55 UEFA member associations, who are prepared to back efforts to remove Infantino from office.

This development arises amidst controversy surrounding FIFA's reported plans to sell a portion of the commercial rights to the FIFA World Cup, a proposal that was met with criticism from UEFA and several national football associations. Media reports suggest that Infantino has since abandoned the plan due to the backlash.

Gianni Infantino, who has been serving as FIFA president since 2016, announced his intention to seek re-election in the FIFA presidential election scheduled for March next year.
