BAKU — Azerbaijan is being recognized as a leader in the global climate change agenda, according to Ismahane Elouafi, Executive Managing Director of CGIAR (Consultative Group for International Agricultural Research). Elouafi’s remarks came during the ongoing Baku Climate Action Week (BCAW 2024), highlighting Azerbaijan's proactive role in addressing environmental challenges.

According to Trend News Agency, Elouafi praised Azerbaijan's engagement with complex global issues, particularly in water management and agricultural practices, amid climate change. She stressed the critical need for "fair water transitions" in agriculture and advocated for evidence-based agricultural research to adapt to changing environmental conditions. Elouafi’s commentary underscores the urgency of adapting global water cycles and food production systems in response to climate change.

BCAW 2024, hosted for the first time from September 30 to October 4, 2024, sets the stage for the COP29 conference scheduled in Baku this November. The event gathers influencers from various sectors including politics, finance, trade, science, and arts to forge a unified front in the climate dialogue. The agenda covers pivotal themes such as energy transition, urban environments, water security, and agricultural sustainability.

CGIAR, founded in 1971, plays a vital role in this dialogue by bringing together international organizations dedicated to food security and sustainable resource management, focusing on alleviating rural poverty and enhancing food and nutrition security globally.
