Azerbaijan Monitors Russian Plague Reports, No Immediate Restrictions Planned

Irkutsk:Reports of plague in Russia's Irkutsk region are being carefully observed by Azerbaijan's Ministry of Health, specifically through its Center for Control of Particularly Dangerous Infections. The Health Ministry has stated that there is no current need for additional restrictive measures in Azerbaijan related to the plague.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the epidemiological situation in Azerbaijan remains stable and is under the vigilant control of relevant authorities. There have been no recorded cases of plague infection in Azerbaijan for the past 50 years. Sanitary and epidemiological control measures are in place for individuals arriving from Russia, and if a suspected case is detected, laboratory testing can be conducted at the Ministry's equipped facilities.

The Ministry explained that plague is a natural-focal infection caused by Yersinia pestis, primarily affecting rodents and fleas, with human infection occurring through contact with these animals or, in rare cases, via respiratory transmission if the disease is pneumonic. While the disease is treatable with early diagnosis and intervention, there is no current cause for significant concern in Azerbaijan. Citizens are encouraged to rely on official information.
