Baku: The first phase of the construction of the Zangezur power line, aimed at connecting the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic to Azerbaijan's main electricity system while forming the Azerbaijan-Nakhchivan-Trkiye-Europe international energy corridor, is nearing completion, AzerEnergy informed APA-Economics.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, AzerEnergy OJSC is finalizing the construction of a 74-kilometer, double-circuit, 330-kilovolt high-voltage transmission line with a capacity of 1,000 megawatts, stretching from Jabrayil to Aghband. The project is 97% complete and includes 296 anchor and intermediate towers, each averaging over 30 tons and standing nearly 45 meters tall. The work has been conducted in challenging climatic conditions and rugged terrain over the winter, spring, and summer months of this year, achieving completion ahead of schedule.

The next phase of the project plans to construct a 100-kilometer transmission line from Ordubad to Nakhchivan, a 44-kilometer line through the Zangezur corridor, and a 230-kilometer line from Nakhchivan to Trkiye. The project is strategically significant for fully integrating the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic into the country's unified energy system, eliminating its dependency on a foreign country for frequency regulation, and creating access to European energy markets. It also aims to facilitate the transmission of green energy and is considered one of the largest energy projects in Azerbaijan's history.
