Accra:Religious figures and individuals holding foreign citizenship will be barred from civil service positions as per a newly adopted draft Civil Service Code. This legislation was discussed and passed in the third reading by the Milli Majlis.
According to Azeri-Press news agency, the draft law outlines specific exclusions for civil service eligibility. These include individuals who have acquired foreign citizenship, those with obligations to another state, and individuals deemed unfit due to certain medical conditions. Additionally, religious figures are explicitly mentioned among those who cannot hold civil service roles.
The draft Civil Service Code also maintains existing restrictions, such as barring those with confirmed limited legal capacity, unexpunged convictions, or compulsory medical measures as determined by court decisions. Moreover, civil service is restricted for those whose previous service was terminated due to non-performance or failure to comply with restrictions, and these former civil servants face a six-month exclusion period.
The legislation retains a maximum age limit of 65 for civil service appointments, consistent with the current Law 'On Civil Service.'
