Baku: Azerbaijan has significant potential to become a pivotal regional hub, connecting energy markets between Central Asia and Europe, according to International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Director-General Francesco La Camera. Speaking at the Fourth Climate Week conference organized by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and hosted by Azerbaijan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, La Camera highlighted the strategic advantages Azerbaijan holds due to its renewable energy resources and geographical location.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, La Camera emphasized that Azerbaijan could leverage its renewable energy capabilities to link infrastructure and markets, fostering a clean energy corridor between Central Asia and Europe. He noted that IRENA's Accelerated Partnership for Renewables in Central Asia and Africa, initiated at COP29 in Baku, supports this vision. The initiative aims to boost investment, enhance regional connectivity, and promote sustainable growth, featuring member countries such as Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan.

La Camera further elaborated on the partnership's activities, mentioning an investment forum hosted by IRENA in Zimbabwe during Baku Energy Week in June. The forum is set to continue with matchmaking events scheduled for next March in Baku, providing a platform for global energy projects to engage with investors and solidify regional cooperation. The energy transition underscores the importance of renewable resources, infrastructure development, and market connectivity, moving beyond the traditional reliance on fossil fuel reserves.

The transformation in Central Asia's energy landscape presents significant opportunities for investment, industrial development, and strengthened regional cooperation, positioning the region at the forefront of the global energy transition.
