CAIRO — At a panel in Baku during the Preliminary Conference of the Parties on Climate Change (Pre-COP29), Elshad Iskandarov, Ambassador on Special Assignment of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, emphasized the critical role of climate change in national security and its direct impact on human migration and daily life.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Iskandarov highlighted that the upcoming discussions at COP29 would focus on water security and the prevention of human migration caused by climate change. He stressed the importance of addressing land degradation and establishing a clear connection between peace and climate change through analytical studies. One of the primary goals articulated was to enhance synergy between ongoing Conference of the Parties (COP) efforts and initiatives outside the COP framework, to foster broader and more effective climate action.

This approach underscores Azerbaijan's commitment to playing a substantial role in global climate discussions, recognizing the intersection of environmental issues with broader geopolitical and social stability.
