Baku: Azerbaijan is taking significant steps to regulate the use of artificial intelligence technologies in the creation and dissemination of digital content. Penalties are being established for creating or distributing photo, video, or audio materials using AI technologies, as well as special software, by using a person's image or voice without their consent, APA reports.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the newly proposed Article 148-2.1 of the Criminal Code was discussed at a session of the Milli Majlis. The draft law specifies that creating or disseminating digital content that does not reflect reality, using a person's image or voice without their consent, will carry severe penalties. These penalties include fines ranging from 3,000 to 7,000 manats, community service from 360 to 480 hours, restriction of liberty for up to three years, or imprisonment for the same duration.
If such acts are committed by a group or in collusion, target multiple individuals, aim at defaming or discrediting a person, or are directed against individuals or their relatives in connection with their public duties, the penalties become more severe. In such cases, imprisonment terms range from three to five years.
Following discussions, the draft law was put to a vote and successfully adopted in the third reading, marking a decisive move by Azerbaijan to address the challenges posed by AI-generated content in the digital age.
