Baku: Azerbaijan has identified new grounds for the temporary restriction of internet information resources, focusing on sensitive content areas such as narcotics, pornography, gambling, and other issues. The proposed amendment to the Law "On Information, Informatization and Protection of Information" was submitted for discussion at the Milli Majlis session today.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the draft law outlines specific cases where access to internet resources or their relevant sections will be restricted by decision of the relevant executive authority. These cases include the dissemination of information about narcotic drugs, pornography, acts insulting public morality, encouragement of gambling, and content promoting or rationalizing suicide. The restrictions also cover films and games not marked according to age categories, as well as content containing insults, defamation, or privacy violations.

The proposed legislation aims to regulate internet content by temporarily restricting access to information that poses a threat to public safety, health, and moral values. It also addresses false information that could lead to significant property damage or disrupt essential services. The draft law was put to a vote and passed in its first reading, marking a significant step in Azerbaijan's efforts to control the dissemination of harmful information online.
