Baku: Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry has expressed solidarity with millions of refugees and forcibly displaced persons globally. 'On 20 June - World Refugee Day, we express our solidarity with millions of refugees and forcibly displaced persons around the world who continue to face immense hardship, uncertainty, and the loss of their homes and livelihoods,' Azerbaijan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a social media post, as reported by APA.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the issue of forced displacement holds particular significance for Azerbaijan. Due to aggression and occupation of its territories, over one million Azerbaijanis were displaced, enduring long-term deprivation. Their rights were severely violated, and their homes, communities, and cultural heritage were destroyed. The Ministry highlighted that following the restoration of Azerbaijan's territorial integrity, the nation is implementing a reconstruction and rehabilitation program in formerly occupied territories. Through the Great Return Program, former internally displaced persons are returning to their native lands in safety and security, rebuilding their lives after years of displacement.

Azerbaijan remains committed to supporting international efforts to address the root causes of forced displacement, promote durable solutions, and uphold international law norms. On World Refugee Day, Azerbaijan honors the resilience of refugees and internally displaced persons worldwide and reaffirms its commitment to ensuring that all forcibly displaced individuals can return home to live in peace and prosperity.
