Aghdam:Baku Azerbaijan has made significant strides in mine clearance efforts in the Karabakh region, discovering over 37,000 mines and unexploded ordnance in Aghdam. Emin Huseynov, Special Representative of the President of Azerbaijan in Aghdam, Fuzuli, and Khojavand districts, highlighted these efforts during his speech at the 7th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue held in Baku.
According to Azeri-Press news agency, Huseynov stated that mine clearance is a critical phase in the restoration and reconstruction process in the liberated territories. Over the past five years, approximately 60% of Aghdam, 78% of Fuzuli, and 16% of Khojavand have been cleared. The operations have uncovered 37,385 mines in Aghdam, 51,640 in Fuzuli, and 26,281 in Khojavand.
The threat of mines remains a primary challenge for restoration efforts in these regions. To address this, a multi-level management and coordination mechanism has been established, guiding restoration policies and setting priorities at the highest levels, while expert working groups plan the implementation of activities.
Another essential aspect of the restoration process is the preparation of master plans and urban planning initiatives. Aghdam's master plan, developed with international cooperation, aims to maintain the city's historical and cultural identity by distinguishing its historical center from the administrative center, uniting the city's past, present, and future.
