Baku: Another case has been identified regarding the legislative regulation of internally displaced person (IDP) status, APA reports. The recent amendments to the Law "On the Status of Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons (Persons Displaced Within the Country)" were approved by President Ilham Aliyev, introducing significant changes to how IDP status is determined and maintained.

According to Azeri-Press news agency, previously, internally displaced persons could lose their IDP status if they returned to their former homes, were provided free housing within the same region, or were allocated housing as per a special state decision. The newly amended law now includes the provision that a citizen will also lose their IDP status if they refuse any of the aforementioned housing options.

The transitional provision of the law specifies that internally displaced persons who have already been provided with alternative housing in liberated areas, before the law's enactment, will lose their IDP status once the law becomes effective. This legislative change emphasizes the state's commitment to restoring property rights by ensuring that displaced persons receive housing of a specified size within their original region of residence.
