Baku:Azerbaijan's success in securing representation on two significant councils of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) has been highlighted as a noteworthy accomplishment by UPU International Bureau Director General Masahiko Metoki, as reported by APA-Economics.
According to Azeri-Press news agency, Azerbaijan has gained seats on both the UPU Council of Administration and the Postal Operations Council. Metoki emphasized the difficulty of winning these elections, noting that among the UPU's 192 member countries, only about 30 nations are represented on both councils.
Metoki also discussed the ongoing transformation within the postal sector, driven by e-commerce, digitalization, and evolving customer expectations. While the volume of traditional letter mail is decreasing, new revenue opportunities are arising, particularly through increased parcel shipments and the use of data.
He further suggested that postal operators should enhance the potential of their existing physical postal networks by leveraging digital capabilities and data more effectively.
