Baku: Azerbaijan's State Security Service has apprehended four citizens for their involvement in the Russia-Ukraine war, as they have violated the nation's legislation prohibiting participation in military conflicts abroad.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the State Security Service is actively investigating and identifying Azerbaijani nationals engaged in foreign armed conflicts. These efforts are intended to ensure that those involved are held accountable under Azerbaijani law.

The recent arrests include Nabiyev Real Eldaniz oglu, Huseynov Faris Famil oglu, Mammadov Ali Elnur oglu, and Mirhashimli Murov Hasan oglu, who were confirmed to have participated in combat operations under the control of Russian and Ukrainian forces. Born between 1991 and 1994, these individuals were detained and charged in January 2026, with a court ruling imposing preventive detention.

The security service highlighted that participation in such conflicts results in criminal liability under Azerbaijani law. The authorities reiterated their commitment to enforcing legal consequences for those engaging in criminal acts abroad, ensuring compliance with national legislation.
