Azerbaijan Sees Decline in Palm Oil Imports but Rise in Import Value

Baku: Azerbaijan has imported approximately 22,000 tons of palm oil in the first half of 2025. During the period from January to June, the country imported 21,814.6 tons of crude palm oil and its fractions valued at 31 million 252.2 thousand US dollars.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, these figures reveal a 9% decrease in the volume of imports compared to the same period in 2024, which saw 23,965 tons imported. However, in value terms, there was a 10.1% increase, amounting to an additional 2.9 million US dollars. This shift demonstrates a rise in the average import price, which increased by 22%, reaching 2.44 manat per kilogram.

The majority of palm oil imports to Azerbaijan during this period came from Indonesia, totaling 21,071 tons, while Malaysia supplied 742.8 tons. Palm oil remains a significant substitute for trans fats in the food industry, particularly in the production of confectionery, ice cream, chocolate, and chips. It is also extensively used in margarine production, a sector in which Azerbaijan produced 23,512 tons during the reporting period.
