Baku: Azerbaijan's electricity production witnessed a notable increase in 2025, with a comprehensive rise reported in solar and wind energy sectors. The Ministry of Energy stated that the total electricity production increased by 262.3 million kWh, reaching a total of 28,657.5 million kWh, which marks a 0.9% rise compared to the previous year.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the electricity generated at thermal power plants saw an increase to 24,823.4 million kWh, which is a 1.14% rise. Hydroelectric power plants contributed 2,842.5 million kWh, while other sources accounted for 991.6 million kWh, marking an 18% increase. Notably, wind power plants produced 169.7 million kWh, solar power plants generated 599.8 million kWh, and the solid household waste incineration plant contributed 222.1 million kWh, reflecting a 4.47% decrease.
The report highlighted that electricity generation from wind and solar power plants experienced a significant increase of 162.3 million kWh, or 26.7%, compared to 2024, achieving a total of 769.5 million kWh.
In 2025, Azerenerji OJSC was responsible for generating 25,591.8 million kWh of electricity, breaking it down to 22,703.6 million kWh from thermal power plants, 2,827.1 million kWh from hydroelectric power plants, and 61.1 million kWh from solar power plants. Additionally, Azerishig OJSC produced 27 million kWh at wind power plants, while independent power producers generated 3,38.7 million kWh.
