US Trade and Development Agency Explores Support for Georgia’s Middle Corridor Development


Tbilisi: Deputy Ministers of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Genadi Arveladze and Inga Phkhaladze, held a meeting with Carl Kress, Regional Director of the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA), APA’s local bureau reports. The meeting focused on future cooperation prospects and Georgia’s ongoing and planned projects for the development of the Middle Corridor, with discussions on potential technical support from USTDA.



According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the Georgian government prioritizes the development of the Middle Corridor and the integration of Georgia’s transport infrastructure into international transit networks. The talks also covered important issues such as the Anaklia deep-sea port, modernization projects for Georgian Railways, the completion of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway construction, full implementation of the East-West highway, and the building of the new Tbilisi International Airport.



The meeting further delved into projects enhancing Georgia’s role as a transit hub across various sectors. One such initiative is the Black Sea submarine cable project, which aims to connect Georgia to the European Union’s energy market. USTDA has shown interest in projects that support the Middle Corridor’s development, emphasizing the necessity to identify and address requirements that enhance the corridor’s competitiveness and attract U.S. investments.



Within the framework of the agency representatives’ working visit, there are plans to explore development opportunities for transport corridors not only in Georgia but also in Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
