Baku: Azerbaijan experienced a 16.9% increase in gas pipeline losses from January to September this year, with total losses reaching 34.6 million cubic meters, according to the State Statistical Committee’s report to APA-Economics.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, during the same period in 2024, the gas losses amounted to 29.6 million cubic meters. The data also revealed that 29,825 million cubic meters of gas were transported through Azerbaijan’s main gas pipelines, reflecting a 0.9% increase from the previous year.

The Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum South Caucasus pipeline accounted for 57.5% of the gas transportation, with the ‘Shah Deniz’ gas-condensate field being a major source. During the reported period, 17,135.6 million cubic meters of gas were transported through this pipeline, marking a 1.98% increase.

It is noteworthy that in 2024, Azerbaijan’s main gas pipelines reported losses of 47.3 million cubic meters, which was 20.9% lower compared to the previous year. In the previous year, 40,348.3 million cubic meters of gas were transported through the main pipelines, reflecting a 2.7% increase. The Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum pipeline transported 56.6% of the gas with a total of 22,851.9 million cubic meters, showing a 4.3% increase.
