Baku: Azerbaijani border guards have successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle more than 84kg of drugs from Iran into Azerbaijan, as reported by the State Border Service. The operation, which was highlighted by APA reports, resulted in the seizure of a significant quantity of narcotics and methadone pills.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the first operation took place at 01:35 local time on 10 September, where officers in the Horadiz border unit's area discovered 54.4kg of narcotics transported into Azerbaijan using a paraglider. This method of smuggling highlights the innovative tactics employed by traffickers in an attempt to bypass border security.

In a subsequent operation at 03:39, border guards stationed in the Goytepe unit's area identified and seized an additional 29.9kg of narcotics along with 3,000 methadone M-40 pills. These pills contain psychotropic substances, further emphasizing the seriousness of the smuggling attempt.

The State Border Service emphasized that these seizures are part of ongoing measures to protect Azerbaijan's state borders and combat the illegal trafficking of drugs, psychotropic substances, and their precursors. Investigations into both incidents are currently underway as authorities continue efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks.
