Baku: This year, reconstruction of the Sarsang Reservoir will begin, Ilham Guliyev, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Regional Water Reclamation Service under the Azerbaijan State Water Resources Agency (ADSEA), announced during a media tour to the Karabakh Economic Region. The tour was organized by the agency in observance of June 5 - Water Management and Reclamation Workers' Day.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Guliyev highlighted that the reservoir boasts a capacity of 560 million cubic meters, with a useful capacity of 500 million cubic meters. A 50-megawatt hydroelectric power plant is powered by the Sarsang Reservoir, and the Sugovushan Reservoir, located twenty kilometers downstream, is used for water regulation. Major repairs were performed on the Sugovushan Reservoir and the Tartar River's left-bank and main canals during 2022-2023. The right-bank canal is scheduled for repairs following the completion of mine clearance.

The Sarsang Reservoir is crucial as it irrigates nearly 100,000 hectares of agricultural land across six districts. During the occupation, Armenian separatists controlled water flow to downstream areas, causing hardship by withholding water when needed and releasing it when it was not necessary. The reservoir dam measures 125 meters in height, 555 meters in length, and 12 meters in width at the top. Its water depth reaches 103 meters, with a water level of 528 meters according to the Baltic system. Presently, approximately 320 million cubic meters of water have been accumulated, with accumulation ongoing.

Guliyev emphasized that all reconstruction efforts are financed by the Azerbaijani state, underscoring the national importance and commitment to the project.
