Azerbaijan Strengthens Energy Partnership with Germany

Baku:Azerbaijan has been a longstanding oil supplier to Germany, and this year has seen the addition of natural gas to this energy partnership, Deputy Energy Minister Elnur Soltanov stated at the 'German-Azerbaijani Strategic Partnership and Connectivity Conference 2026' in Baku.

According to Azeri-Press news agency, Soltanov highlighted that German companies Uniper, SEFE, and VNG are currently purchasing Azerbaijani gas. He emphasized the importance of expanding this partnership to include renewable energy, energy connectivity, energy efficiency, and the broader energy transition.

Azerbaijan's offshore wind energy potential in the Caspian Sea amounts to 157 gigawatts, with plans for 8 gigawatts of wind and solar projects by 2032. Additionally, Central Asia's renewable energy resources and strategic electricity interconnectors present significant opportunities for enhancing Europe's energy security and transition.

The aim is to connect Azerbaijan's energy potential to European markets through various routes, including the Caspian-Black Sea-Europe Green Energy Corridor, the Central Asia-Azerbaijan Corridor, and links westward via Georgia and Nakhchivan to Turkey and Europe. The TRIPP project is also seen as a contributor to these efforts.
