Azerbaijan Thwarts Drug Smuggling Attempt from Iran: Multiple Arrests Made


Baku: Several individuals attempting to smuggle a large quantity of narcotics into Azerbaijan were detained, APA reports citing the Press Center of the State Border Service. In late February, as a result of border searches and operational measures carried out in the service area of the “Horadiz” border detachment of the Border Troops Command of the State Border Service, five Azerbaijani citizens were arrested for attempting to smuggle narcotics into the country.



According to Azeri-Press News Agency, on February 19, during the operation in the service area of the border detachment, Elmaddin Mammadov, born in 1985, a resident of Fuzuli district, was detained while attempting to smuggle 10.6 kilograms of narcotics (8.6 kilograms of marijuana and 2 kilograms of methamphetamine) into the country.



On February 26, at 20:40, five individuals were detained while attempting to smuggle a total of 22 kilograms of narcotics (marijuana) into Azerbaijan. The detained persons are Ahad Alibala oglu Garayev, born in 2001, from Imishli district; Najmaddin Rasim oglu Mammadli, born in 2003, from Beylagan district; Elchin Eldar oglu Mamishov, born in 1973, from Sheki district; and Mehman Mahir oglu Muradov, born in 1973, also from Sheki district.



Operational and investigative measures are ongoing regarding the case.
