Igdir: On March 5, a significant event unfolded as the Igdir-Nakhchivan gas pipeline was inaugurated, marking a milestone in energy cooperation between Azerbaijan, Trkiye, and Nakhchivan. The ceremony was attended virtually by the Presidents of Azerbaijan and Trkiye, reflecting the importance of this project in strengthening the relationship between the two nations.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev highlighted the historical significance of the Igdir-Nakhchivan gas pipeline, underscoring it as a pivotal day for Turkish-Azerbaijani friendship. President Aliyev recalled laying the foundation stone for this project with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan a year and a half ago, celebrating its successful completion as a testament to their enduring partnership.
The historical context of Nakhchivan’s separation from Azerbaijan was a focal point in President Aliyev’s speech. He emphasized that the annexation of West Zangezur to Armenia over a century ago led to the disconnection of Nakhchivan from Azerbaijan. Zaur Mammadov, an advisor and political scientist, elaborated on the historical events that led to the current territorial and geopolitical dynamics.
