Azerbaijan to commission another 4 hydropower plants in Kalbajar-VIDEO

Azerenerji JSC is constructing hydropower plants in 4 places in the Kalbajar region, JSC told APA-Economics.

According to the information, it is planned to commission Zar hydropower plant with a capacity of 4,3 MW, Nadirkhanly with a capacity of 8,8 MW, Ashagi Veng with a capacity of 8,6 MW, and Yukhary Veng with a capacity of 22,5 MW in the region in 2024.

Note that during the years 2020-2023, small hydropower stations with a total capacity of 32 MW in the Kalbajar district, named “Kalbajar-1”, “Meydan”, “Qamishli”, “Chirag-1”, “Chirag-2”, and “Soyuqbulaq”, were reconstructed by Azerenerji and commissioned with the participation of the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev.

Following the resettlement policy, more than 20 residents of Kalbajar are employed in these plants. Up to now, nearly 70 million kilowatt-hours of environmentally friendly green energy have been produced at the commissioned 6 small hydropower plants. Note that due to the efficiency of the installed turbines and favorable conditions of
this year, the stations are currently operating at their nominal capacity.

To obtain carbon certificates for small hydropower plants, an application has been made to the Global Carbon Council organization, located in Qatar, for the small hydropower plants operating in Kalbajar, and a positive opinion was given to move to the next stage of the plant registration procedure. This initiative will successively cover other hydroelectric power plants, and for the first time in the history of Azerbaijan, the provision of carbon certificates for renewable energy power plants will be related to the energy facilities in the territories freed from occupation.
