Azerbaijan to Construct Railway Line from Yeni Surakhani to Heydar Aliyev International Airport

Baku: Azerbaijan has announced plans to construct a new railway line extending from Yeni Surakhani to Heydar Aliyev International Airport. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance transportation infrastructure in response to the influx of 400,000 daily passengers entering the capital from surrounding areas.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Anar Rzayev, the Chairman of the Board of the Land Transport Agency (AYNA), shared these developments during a transportation-focused meeting. He outlined that the initial step involves augmenting the number of trains on the Absheron circular railway while preventing freight trains from utilizing this route. To achieve this, the Guzdek-Garadagh railway is slated for activation.

Rzayev also mentioned plans to restore some outdated and decommissioned railways. The restoration targets routes such as Zabrat 2-Mashtagha-Baghlar-Albaly and Bakikhanov-Bina-Gala-Yeni Surakhani-Hovsan, all aimed at enhancing passenger traffic management. In the subsequent phase, the construction of the Yeni Surakhani to Heydar Aliyev International Airport railway line is anticipated. This expansion is expected to accommodate the growing passenger flow to and from the airport.
