Baku: Azerbaijan plans to develop a state control system for seeds imported into the country. This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance seed production and seedling cultivation in Azerbaijan, as outlined by APA-Economics.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the 'State Program on the development of production and processing sectors of agricultural, fisheries and aquaculture products in the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2026-2030' highlights the need for legal, institutional, and support measures. The program outlines updates to the Law 'On Seed Production' and other related normative documents. Efforts will focus on improving the activities of scientific research institutions and organizations engaged in seed production, as well as enhancing the Seed Fund.
The program also aims to optimize the material and technical resources of these institutions and organizations, encourage contract-based seed production with private sector involvement, and implement result-oriented subsidization instruments in seed production. A key goal is to improve state control over imported seeds and increase domestic seed production, thereby boosting self-sufficiency in this sector.
