Doha:Azerbaijan will host the 12th Annual Meeting of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) in 2027. The decision was made during the 11th Annual Meeting held in Doha, Qatar.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Azerbaijan's Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov attended the event, participating in the opening ceremony, official sessions, and the Governors' Roundtable. He also engaged in numerous bilateral meetings.
Jabbarov expressed gratitude to the AIIB Board of Governors for selecting Baku as the venue for the 2027 meeting. He emphasized Azerbaijan's commitment to fostering sustainable growth, innovation, and regional connectivity, highlighting the country's strategic role in linking regions and promoting economic cooperation.
The event in Doha showcased Azerbaijan's capabilities in transport, energy, and digital connectivity, aligning with the AIIB's 'Infrastructure for Tomorrow' mission. The 2027 Annual Meeting, scheduled for July 14-15, will offer a platform to exchange ideas and enhance collaboration on infrastructure development in the South Caucasus, Central Asia, and the wider Caspian region.
The Governors' Roundtable addressed future cooperation priorities, new investment projects, regional integration, and strengthening economies. Mikayil Jabbarov also spoke at a seminar focusing on Azerbaijan's green transition and potential cooperation in transport and logistics projects.
During bilateral meetings, Jabbarov discussed Azerbaijan-AIIB cooperation with AIIB President Zou Jiayi, emphasizing infrastructure and sustainable development. He also met with Qatar's Finance Minister Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari to explore mutual investment opportunities and private-sector partnerships.
As a founding member of the AIIB, Azerbaijan has been actively involved since 2016, with the Annual Meeting serving as a crucial platform for discussing strategic priorities and regional cooperation.
