Lachin: Azerbaijan is set to embark on construction work in the Gorchu settlement of the Lachin district in the coming year. Demolition work in the area has already begun, according to Rafig Salmanov, Executive Director of the Restoration, Construction and Management Service in Lachin District, as reported by APA’s local bureau.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, a total of 319 unsalvageable structures are being demolished over an area spanning 300 hectares. The demolition, managed by the ‘EL SEYM’ company, is expected to be completed within two months. Following this, construction works for the first phase in the Gorchu settlement are scheduled to start in 2026. This phase includes the construction of 250 individual residential houses, a 264-seat school, a 140-seat kindergarten, a medical station, a club-community center, a sports and wellness center, an administrative building, and infrastructure development such as roads.
As part of the Second State Program on the ‘Great Return,’ the next phase of construction in Gorchu is slated for the period between 2027 and 2030. This phase will see the addition of 250-300 individual residential houses and multi-story apartment buildings, ultimately providing permanent resettlement for one thousand families in the Gorchu settlement.
Situated near the newly inaugurated Lachin International Airport, the Gorchu settlement is strategically positioned to offer employment opportunities to its future residents, thereby facilitating economic growth and stability in the region.
