Baku: A fixed monthly tariff for electricity consumption will be introduced in Azerbaijan, APA reports. This amendment was adopted during the third reading of the draft law on ‘Electric Power’ at today’s session of the Milli Majlis (Parliament).

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the draft law outlines that a fixed tariff is a monthly element applied to each consumer to cover a portion of fixed costs determined by an independent regulator, regardless of electricity consumption levels. The law aims to incorporate a fixed tariff approach within the broader framework of tariff regulation in the electricity sector.

The draft highlights that in international practice, fixed tariffs are often used to regulate electricity prices and tariffs. Consumers will pay a set amount monthly as a fixed cost, independent of the amount of electricity consumed, ensuring that all consumer categories contribute to covering certain costs of the distribution system operator.

Additionally, the draft law specifies the rights and obligations of electricity suppliers and consumers in relation to the implementation of the fixed tariff and addresses other pertinent issues.
