BAKU: Azerbaijan is poised to play a pivotal role in the upcoming Conference of the Parties (COP) processes, particularly as it prepares to host the 29th session this November, announced Azerbaijani Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources and COP29 president-designate Mukhtar Babayev. The announcement came during a forum in Baku focused on green finance and sustainable development.
According to Trend News Agency, Minister Babayev emphasized Azerbaijan’s commitment to leadership in global climate discussions. “This year Azerbaijan will preside over COP, as well as generally lead global processes, and in the future, Azerbaijan will be the most active participant in this process. Leadership and good examples are expected from our country, and, of course, creative and interesting proposals and ideas are also awaited from the banking sector,” he stated at the forum.
The decision to host COP29 in Azerbaijan was finalized at the plenary meeting of COP28 held in Dubai on December 11 last year. The event is expect

The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, established at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in June 1992, aims to prevent dangerous human interference in the climate system. The Conference of Parties (COP), as the supreme decision-making body of the Convention, meets annually unless decided otherwise by the parties. The very first COP was held in March 1995 in Berlin, Germany, and the secretariat of the Convention is based in Bonn, Germany.
