Work Progressing on COP29 Green Zone in Azerbaijan: Official Details Development Plans

BAKU: Work is advancing on the preparation of the Green Zone for the upcoming 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, which will be held in Azerbaijan this November, officials announced during a media tour at the Baku Olympic Stadium.

According to Trend News Agency, Leyla Mahmudova, Head of Sponsorship and Partnership Division for COP29 in Azerbaijan, detailed the ongoing efforts and structural layout for the Green Zone at the event. The zone, covering an impressive 37,500 square meters, is being designed to host pavilions for both local and international businesses, as well as public sector stakeholders. It will feature 18 business-to-business (B2B) spaces aimed at fostering dynamic interactions and opportunities for investment, while also being accessible to the community through complimentary access options.

The decision to host COP29 in Azerbaijan was made during the plenary meeting of COP28 in Dubai on December 11 last year. Baku is expect
ed to welcome between 70,000 and 80,000 international visitors for the conference, transforming the city into a global hub for discussions on climate change. The annual COP meetings, established under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change signed at the Rio Earth Summit in June 1992, serve as the supreme decision-making body for international climate policy. The convention currently has 198 countries as signatories.

The inaugural COP took place in March 1995 in Berlin, Germany, and its secretariat resides in Bonn.
