CAIRO — Azerbaijan is poised to significantly expand its renewable energy capacity, potentially increasing it by more than threefold, according to Elnur Soltanov, Deputy Minister of Energy and Chief Executive Officer of COP29.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Soltanov made these remarks during a panel discussion at the UN's Preliminary Conference of the Parties on Climate Change (Pre-COP29) in Baku. He outlined Azerbaijan's strategic focus on tripling renewable sources and doubling energy efficiency as key elements of the country's energy initiatives. "Most of our energy-related initiatives focus on network improvements, developing both local and international green energy corridors, and enhancing grid-scale storage facilities," Soltanov explained.

Azerbaijan has already begun to implement these ambitious plans, starting with the operation of the region's largest solar power plant last year. Soltanov also emphasized Azerbaijan's leadership in establishing green corridors, predicting that this initiative will be remembered as one of the country's significant contributions to global energy solutions.
