BAKU — Francesco La Camera, Director General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), emphasized the crucial role of the Paris Agreement in the global effort to combat climate change during a panel discussion at the UN Climate Change Conference (Pre-COP29).

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, La Camera reiterated IRENA's commitment to supporting the international goal of limiting the global temperature increase to 1.5 degrees Celsius. He stressed that the challenge of the global energy transition extends beyond technical and economic dimensions to include a moral imperative. "As we gather here today, we are reminded of our commitments under the Paris Agreement, which is the cornerstone of our collective fight against climate change," La Camera stated. He further highlighted the urgency of the situation, calling it "not a distant goal, but an urgent necessity" that demands "unwavering political will" from global leaders.

The discussion underscored the need for continued and strengthened international cooperation to achieve the ambitious climate goals set forth in the Paris Agreement, reinforcing the agreement's role as the foundation for collective climate action.
