Baku: Azerbaijan has conducted extensive restoration work at the Military Memorial Cemetery, culminating in the erection of a grand monument dedicated to the memory of the nation’s martyrs. The project aligns with the continuous efforts of President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva to honor martyrs and their families, as stated by Colonel Anar Eyvazov, Head of the Press and Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Defense, during the Day of Remembrance.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, this initiative marks the fifth anniversary of the Patriotic War and involved significant reconstruction efforts at the cemetery. The site, which holds the remains of servicemen from the First and Second Karabakh wars, the April battles, anti-terrorist operations, a helicopter crash, and distinguished civilians, underwent transformations following the Supreme Commander’s directives. Key changes included the removal of an existing stone fence and the construction of a monument symbolizing the 44-day Patriotic War.
The restoration project also incorporated input from the families of the martyrs, ensuring that the site, where 670 martyrs, including 12 National Heroes and 11 Patriotic War Heroes, are laid to rest, reflects their wishes. Plaques detailing each day of the 44-day Patriotic War have been erected to commemorate the events and sacrifices made. This sacred site now stands as a testament to the nation’s spiritual and moral values, offering a place for citizens to honor and remember the sacrifices of the martyrs, keeping their legacy alive.
