Azerbaijan Unveils Special Stamp Celebrating 165 Years of National Photography

Baku: A special postage stamp has been issued on the initiative of the Gilavar Photo Club Public Union to commemorate the 165th anniversary of Azerbaijani photography. The stamp, designed by 'Azerpo§t' LLC, under AZCON Holding, showcases some of the earliest photographs taken in Azerbaijan, capturing the essence of the nation's photographic history.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the stamp preserves historical images associated with the origins of Azerbaijani photography through philately. It features significant visual examples from the early development of photographic art in the country, highlighting Azerbaijan's rich photographic heritage and supporting its international promotion.

Printed by Belgium Post, the stamp was released as a souvenir sheet with a limited print run of 4,000 copies. Azerbaijani photography dates back to 1861, when the first known photographs of the country were taken, depicting panoramic views of Baku Bay from the sea. These historic images mark the beginning of Azerbaijan's photographic tradition.
