Baku: In a recent interview, Orkhan Nazarli, Head of the State Tax Service under the Ministry of Economy, clarified the agency's stance on tax rates, emphasizing that the focus is on promoting voluntary compliance rather than benefitting from increased tax rates.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Nazarli outlined the State Tax Service's strategic goals, highlighting a commitment to transparency and accountability. He mentioned that the service has articulated its strategy and future vision to the public, with annual reports crafted to reflect these objectives. The first of these reports was released last year, serving as a testament to the service's accountability to society.
Nazarli stressed that, beyond achieving planned targets, the State Tax Service aims to reduce the tax gap, bolster public trust, and enhance voluntary tax compliance. He argued that higher tax rates complicate voluntary compliance and necessitate more enforcement, which is not aligned with their objectives. The main priority remains creating an environment conducive to taxpayers voluntarily fulfilling their tax responsibilities.
