Azerbaijan Urged to Boost Healthcare Spending and Adopt Demographic Development Program, Says MP

Baku: It is necessary to increase healthcare spending in the coming years and consider its optimal distribution, said Musa Guliyev, Chairman of the Labor and Social Policy Committee, at a joint meeting of the Milli Majlis Committees on Natural Resources, Energy and Ecology, Labor and Social Policy, Health, International Relations and Interparliamentary Relations.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the Chairman emphasized that healthcare and medical services are the state’s responsibility, not just by increasing spending. He pointed out that if the private sectors support this responsibility, problems could be solved faster. Guliyev also highlighted global trends, noting that the birth rate is decreasing worldwide, while the number of elderly people is increasing.

Guliyev warned of a potential labor market issue in 10-15 years due to these demographic changes. He urged for the adoption of a state program on demographic development to prevent a decrease in the number of the young generation.
