Baku: Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and U.S. President Donald Trump recently engaged in a telephone conversation, marking a significant moment in their bilateral relations. During the call, they expressed satisfaction regarding the anniversary of the Washington Summit.

According to Azeri-Press news agency, the Washington Peace Summit, along with the Joint Declaration signed with U.S. President Donald Trump as a witness, played a crucial role in ending the regional conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia. The agreement on establishing interstate relations was highlighted as a pivotal step towards peace. President Aliyev conveyed his gratitude to President Trump for hosting the summit and contributing to the peace process.

The conversation also acknowledged the stability maintained in the region over the past year, with no incidents disrupting peace. Positive developments such as the export of Azerbaijani petroleum products to Armenia, transit cargo transportation, and the initiation of trade relations were noted. The importance of the TRIPP project for regional connectivity was discussed, with ongoing work in Azerbaijan nearing completion and hopes that Armenia would soon begin its part.

The leaders addressed other bilateral issues, emphasizing the historic signing of the strategic partnership document between Azerbaijan and the United States. This milestone signifies a new level of cooperation, enhancing peace and stability in the broader region. President Aliyev expressed appreciation for the invitation to the G20, viewing it as a gesture of goodwill towards Azerbaijan.
