Baku: Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev announced that in 2025, the nation's athletes achieved a record high number of medals at international competitions, with over 2,000 medals including approximately 600 golds. This announcement was made during a ceremony on December 26 that celebrated the year's sports achievements.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, President Aliyev, who also serves as the President of the National Olympic Committee, highlighted the steady progress of sports development in Azerbaijan. He emphasized that the increased medal count compared to the previous year reflects the country's focus on sports development and the success of state policies aimed at enhancing sports performance.
President Aliyev also pointed out that the advancement of sports is a crucial aspect of Azerbaijan's state policy. He mentioned that numerous state programs have been launched to support this initiative, with significant investments made in building sports infrastructure. He noted that two new Olympic Sports Centers were completed in Ganja and Yevlakh in 2025, raising the total number of such centers in the regions to 46, thereby providing ample opportunities for regional sports engagement.
